Welcome to my Blog.

JILL ROSELL PHOTOGRAPHY

From the moment I received my first SLR camera some twenty years ago - a 21st birthday present - it was love at first touch. To me it was, and is, an instrument of creation and inspiration, and it transformed the way in which I viewed the world. Born and raised in the midst of the natural beauty of New Zealand, I have since had the good fortune to travel extensively and to experience the wonder and beauty of varied countries and cultures.
Along the way I've discovered that a photograph is much more than a moment, an image, or an emotion. Not only can it serve to capture the true essence of a person or place, it can embody their heart and soul. When this is accomplished the photograph takes on a life of its own and triggers a deep emotional response in the viewer. As a professional photographer and an artist, it is this goal that I seek to accomplish. Each time I raise my lens I strive to capture the heart and soul of my subject.
I'm blessed to call Bend in Central Oregon my home, an area with an abundance of natural beauty and a plethora of wonderful activities. Every day I wake up grateful for where I live, what I have, and who I am. My passion for photography could not have evolved without my husband and two young children. Over the years they have offered me endless enriched moments to capture, moments that perfectly illustrate that a photograph can be so much more than just an image.
My passion in life is to search out these "soul moments" through the lens of my camera. I invite you to join me on this ever evolving and exciting journey, one that will undoubtedly provide intimate and remarkable memories captured forever for your lasting enjoyment.

Monte Christi Orphanage

I created this slide show as a gift to the 42 children at the Orphanage I stayed at this month in Monte Christi in the Dominican Republic.
Each and every child touched my heart, they all are stars of the show!
The children are fortunate to have many opportunities at their finger tips thanks to www.orphanage-Outreach.org
I shall be giving them a DVD to keep along with printed photos of many of these photos to treasure. It was a delight capturing the beauty of these children.

Enjoy the show...

Spring is Here... along with Snow ?????

Spring was here, daffodils are here and today 'snow' is here
I guess one could say we are transitioning into spring.
I am excited for the buds on the trees to open and the grass to green up.
To celebrate spring I am excited to offer -  'kids under 12 photo sessions'.
Creative, outdoor fun sessions that could result in up to $5,000 in prizes. Read below for further details. The print might be small  - try clicking on it.. otherwise please contact me.. I am working. on getting this blog to contain larger photos.

Enjoy the snow if you have it as it won't be around too much longer!! :)

Farewell Miles..

Three months ago I was honored to photograph a friend and his family. Miles the father of my friend was diagnosed that week with terminal lung cancer. It was a very unique photo shoot for me as I knew the importance of these photos for the future.
Miles was incredible as he not only showed so much courage he also glowed as I photographed him as he was surrounded with the love of his family. It was the second time that week that I felt such love and energy between a family and their loved one. Earlier that week I photographed a family and their dying dog called Bella.
That week was no accident for me and my camera. It was clear that these two experiences where to show me I had a new calling with my camera.
This week Miles transitioned and he did so with dignity and strength. It was an honor to have been by his side near the end and to have had the gift to have captured his soul through my camera. His soul will always be alive.
I would like to share with you  few of my favorite photos I took of Miles. I am sure you will feel in your hearts what I felt when I was behind my camera.
Now that I know the preciousness of such photos to a family. I would like to give that to other families who are in a similar situation whether it be a family member or a four legged family member. Please pass this message along to someone who maybe in need of such a gift. The photo shoot would be complimentary...

Video of my trip to Dominican Republic

In this video, I share some of what I captured with my camera in the Dominican Republic this month while staying at an Orphanage in a town near the Haiti border.
An amazing program called Orphanage Outreach not only helps over 60 orphans it also offers education in the schools, medical and dental clinics where there is tremendous need in this third world country. All of this couldn't be possible without all the wonderful staff, volunteers and donations.
It was refreshing to experience the simplicity of the third world and be in the moment. My experience has reminded me how grateful I am for where I live, what I have, and who I am.

Enjoy.

My first post - Bend Oregon Portrait Photographer

I am so excited to have finally created my blog. I was avoiding it for a while as it seemed just another thing to keep me on the computer. When I am on the computer it means I am not behind my camera. We shall see how it goes...

I am currently working on all the photos I took this month when I visited the Dominican Republic. I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful organization called Orphanage Outreach. Here is their link.. www.orphanageoutreach.org
I shall return soon with photos and even a movie to share with you.
Enjoy your day.
