Welcome to my Blog.

From the moment I received my first SLR camera some twenty years ago - a 21st birthday present - it was love at first touch. To me it was, and is, an instrument of creation and inspiration, and it transformed the way in which I viewed the world. Born and raised in the midst of the natural beauty of New Zealand, I have since had the good fortune to travel extensively and to experience the wonder and beauty of varied countries and cultures.
Along the way I've discovered that a photograph is much more than a moment, an image, or an emotion. Not only can it serve to capture the true essence of a person or place, it can embody their heart and soul. When this is accomplished the photograph takes on a life of its own and triggers a deep emotional response in the viewer. As a professional photographer and an artist, it is this goal that I seek to accomplish. Each time I raise my lens I strive to capture the heart and soul of my subject.
I'm blessed to call Bend in Central Oregon my home, an area with an abundance of natural beauty and a plethora of wonderful activities. Every day I wake up grateful for where I live, what I have, and who I am. My passion for photography could not have evolved without my husband and two young children. Over the years they have offered me endless enriched moments to capture, moments that perfectly illustrate that a photograph can be so much more than just an image.
My passion in life is to search out these "soul moments" through the lens of my camera. I invite you to join me on this ever evolving and exciting journey, one that will undoubtedly provide intimate and remarkable memories captured forever for your lasting enjoyment.

I have been educating myself lately on the importance of 'social media'.
My favorite social network would have to be FACEBOOK. It is very rare to come across a person today who is 'not' on facebook. Twittering, myspace, linkedin are certainly lagging behind facebook.
Facebook is the most user friendly network in my opinion and  the best way to share photos.
Times have changed when you bump into a friend you haven't seen in months but you know exactly what they have been up to through reading their facebook postings.
No one is forced to join facebook but you are certainly out of the loop today if you don't have a facebook page.

If you are unsure or have been pondering on the idea of joining facebook, click below to learn more about facebook.

The key is not to live your life through facebook. We are humans and need physical contact!

I hope to see you all on facebook..

An evening in the Park and a Candy Store with Brenden.

This week I met a delightful young man called Brenden and we got to venture around Bend's most beautiful park  - Drake Park. The park is situated on the gorgeous flowing river called the Deschutes.
Things have greened up nicely and I can already smell summer around the corner.
We ended our photo shoot in Bend's very special ice cream/candy store called Goodys.
Brenden was a star and certainly showed me what a sweet soul he is. It was so neat to see such proud parents, who obviously think the world of their son. If only all kids where loved this much in this world.
I shall be entering my favorite shot of Brenden into the Baby and Child Portrait Contest.
Good luck Brenden!!

Check out it out.. I am entering until the end of June.

While enjoying the recent weekend at the beautiful King Estate Winery in Oregon, I got the chance to do a late night Boudoir shoot with my Irish friend Maeve.
As you can see she was very comfortable behind the camera which made it a delight to capture her true essence and beauty.

Come see my photography at Mother's Juice Cafe.

Until June I will be showing a selection of my favorite photos  from my recent trip to the Dominican Republic.
These large colorful pieces show beautifully on the walls in this colorful cozy cafe located on the west side of Bend.

Mother's is one of my favorite places to hang and has the best smoothies in town. The friendly staff will welcome you in and treat you well.

The latest new exercise class comes to Bend...

Just home from my first ever barre 3 class. I would have to say it was one of the most powerful strengthening exercises class I have ever been to. An hour of very effective strengthening routines combining yoga, palates and ballet. Having done many years of ballet as a child it was so nice to feel the bar again and point my toes, along with the deep breathing of yoga and the lengthening of palates. There was never a time to be distracted and the hip music kept everyone moving and pumped to be in the room. It is amazing what a small ball, a strap and some ever so tiny movements can do to ones muscles.
Just built, the barre 3 studio is extremely modern, colorful and the perfect place to be in when one needs to be caring for their body.
You can find Bend's first barre 3 studio right on the westside of town on Century Drive - behind the Dutch Brothers.
Stop in and meet the lovely Darcy Davidson, a great friend and now a Bend business owner. Check out barre 3 at : barre3™: locations, schedules, rates

Congratulations barre 3 for offering something exciting and new to Bend.

Spring is in the snow here!

Yesterday I decided to go and capture the spring that was trying to enlighten us here in Bend. The flowers seemed very confused on what to do on this particular day. One minute they were being coated in snow next minute the sun was shining down on them. I hope they can hang in there, I know spring is almost with us. So excited for spring!

Vote for my entry in the 2010 Professional Photographer Magazine Cover Contest

OK.. I guess my chances are higher if I bug you all to vote on my photo to be on the cover of my favorite photography magazine. For me it is not about winning a prize but rather getting noticed at a national level. I want to enter this special photo I took of my daughter Sophie. Eyes are truly the window to the soul.. The photo is titled. "Eyes of the Future."
Thanks for you help.
